Thomas Parenty's patent application for the invention, "Method and System for Object Encryption Using Transparent Key Management" has been published by the World Intellectual Property Organization under the Patent Cooperation Treaty. This invention protects the confidentiality of sensitive information of all media types both while it is being transmitted across networks as well as while it is being stored.

Unlike other approaches, the invention accomplishes this protection goal in a manner that:
" is easy to use and administer,
" eliminates the user burden of managing or using encryption keys and digital certificates,
" simplifies secure sharing across organizations,
" can be used on computers worldwide without the necessity of installing new applications, and
" provides end to end protection from a sender's computer to a recipient's computer
